The Mets don’t need to finalize their NLDS roster until Friday, but Steven Matz may have just booked his flight to Los Angeles.
The rookie southpaw, who is being considered to start Game 4 against the Dodgers, but hasn’t pitched since Sept. 24 because of back discomfort, threw five innings Thursday morning in the instructional league in Port St. Lucie, saying afterwards his back didn’t bother him.
However, Matz cautioned he will need to see how he feels Friday morning before the team adds him to the postseason roster.
“Outstanding. He was nasty,” Eric Campbell said, according to Florida-based reporter Jon Santucci.
