JUPITER, Fla. — After Steven Matz tossed two scoreless innings in his first outing since undergoing surgery last year to remove a bone spur in his elbow, the lefty seemed more interested in talking about his new method of holding runners on first.
The Mets would like Matz’s elbow to remain just a secondary subject the rest of the season.
“I definitely had some nerves going into it, since it had been so long since I’d been out there,” Matz said following the Mets 8-2 win over the Marlins at Roger Dean Stadium on Monday. “It felt kind of awkward when I went out there, but once I started throwing it felt good.
