The Mets’ probable starting pitchers for this weekend remain undetermined, but manager Mickey Callaway hopes to have returning players from whom to choose.
Before the Mets’ 6-2 victory over the Nationals on Tuesday, Jason Vargas threw a side session and Steven Matz played catch. Both pitchers presently on the injured list will be evaluated Wednesday for potential duty this weekend in Miami.
Matz will throw a side session before the Mets reach a final decision, but Vargas could be cleared for a return to the rotation.
Callaway said he plans to start Jacob deGrom on Friday, with the following two days wide open.
