ST. LOUIS — Steven Matz is in the Mets’ rotation until he is not.
Manager Mickey Callaway strongly hinted Thursday the struggling lefty will take his normal turn Tuesday against the Braves, but played it coy when he was asked if Matz will definitely receive the start.
Callaway and the pitcher met before the Mets fell 4-3 in 13 innings to the Cardinals in the series finale. At issue was Matz unraveling the previous night, after his throwing error led to three unearned runs scoring. Matz lasted only 3 ¹/u2083 innings and allowed seven runs, four of which were unearned.
