Mets lefty Steven Matz will make his return to the big leagues this weekend against the Marlins, sources confirmed Tuesday. The Ward Melville product will start in place of Noah Syndergaard, whose turn in the rotation will be skipped so he can remain within his innings limits for the season.
Matz could start Saturday or Sunday, depending on where the Mets slot Bartolo Colon. According to a source, the team is weighing using Colon on Saturday to keep him on regular four days' rest, which would leave Matz's return for Sunday.
"I'm just going to try to pick up where I left off," said Matz, who was 2-0 with a 1.
