Stephen Nogosek started the year being seen as a candidate for the backend of the bullpen. One of the hodgepodge of relievers that the Mets traded for in 2017, Nogosek was the prototypical “95 and a slider” righthander that has become essentially a depth arm for most farm systems around the league. However, we are dealing with the Mets system, whose vaunted lack of depth in their arms is well known to those that watched games in 2019.
None of these traits are a knock on Nogosek. Nogosek worked 50.1 innings in the minors this year and was extremely effective.
