After nearly two months on the Injured List with a right-knee bone bruise, Starling Marte is back with the Mets. Ahead of today’s 12:10 start against the Marlins, Marte was reinstated from the Injured List. In a corresponding move, Ben Gamel - who was recalled the day Marte went on the IL and has been with the team ever since - was designated for assignment.
Offensively, Marte was having a bounce back season, batting .278/.328/.416 with seven home runs and a 112 OPS+. However, the combination of the knee injury and his declining skills due to age meant that Marte was one of the worst outfielders in the National League, defensively, before getting hurt.
