Starling Marte landed on the 10-Day Injured List, retroactive to June 23rd, with a right-knee bone bruise. In the corresponding move, outfielder Ben Gamel was recalled from Triple-A Syracuse.
Marte, who left after an at-bat in Saturday’s game against the Cubs, has been dealing with some knee soreness for the better part of a month now, with the Mets attempting to give him some extra rest when they can. During the London Series, for example, Marte sat one day due to the turf field being particularly hard on the knees. At a certain point, it seemed like Marte had to hit the IL to fully rest and not let the team play even more short-handed than they already are with Edwin Díaz suspended until July 6.
