It’s the Fourth of July, and the Mets celebrated by playing an incredibly early rubber game against the Washington Nationals. After winning the first two games of the season, a win today could’ve won them the series and given them a winning record. José Quintana was pitching for the Mets, and despite an inconsistent season thus far he looked good the last couple of games, and the Mets were hoping for that to continue. Jake Irvin was pitching for the Nationals, and looking good in his second major league season.
The game started with the Mets up to bat, and they were unable to do anything, with Francisco Lindor, Brandon Nimmo, and Francisco Alvarez going down in order.
