The Mets came in today’s afternoon series finale having won the first two games against the Twins and hoping for a sweep to propel them into the off day and a subsequent road trip. Instead, they will have to settle for a simple series victory, as a rough start from Luis Severino and a quiet day from the offense made this one a fairly quiet 8-3 loss.
Severino took the mound for his twenty-first start of the year, and it would end up being one of his worst outings as a member of the Mets. The bad times started in the second inning, when Byron Buxton hit a one-out solo homer to left-center field to give the Twins an early 1-0 lead.
