Pitchers and catchers don’t officially report to spring training until Wednesday, February 17, but the Mets already have their first injury of the 2021 MLB season. Earlier this morning, the club announced on Twitter that Seth Lugo has a loose body in his right elbow and will have surgery on February 16 to correct the problem.
During his normal offseason throwing progression, a bone spur had broken off at some point, according to the team’s post. The 31-year-old right-hander informed the Mets of the injury when the inflammation wouldn’t subside, which led to an MRI that took place yesterday and that revealed the prognosis.
