Seth Lugo will have an additional reason to pay attention to the game this season when he isn’t pitching.
Edwin Diaz’s arrival to the Mets last month might have resonated the most with Lugo, who became friendly with the former Mariners closer when both were pitching for Puerto Rico in the 2017 World Baseball Classic. It’s there that Lugo came to understand Diaz is something special.
“I have seen him pitch in the WBC, and you can tell he was scaring hitters, so it was fun to watch,” Lugo said in a phone interview. “When Edwin and Jeurys [Familia] come in to pitch, I am going to be real excited to watch them pitch, too.
