Before the second game of the Mets’ series in Miami, manager Carlos Mendoza told the press that left-handed starting pitcher Sean Manaea suffered a setback. Having suffered an oblique injury relatively early in spring training, Manaea felt discomfort recently, and an MRI showed inflammation in the oblique.
From here, Manaea will receive a PRP injection and be shut down for two weeks. But a recovery timeline that optimistically projected a late-April return for Manaea obviously won’t happen. It feels like a late May return would be a relative win for the team given the news.
The Mets signed Manaea to a three-year, $75 million deal coming off his first season with the organization in 2024.
