LOS ANGELES -- Left-hander Sean Gilmartin pitched solidly in the New York Mets' bullpen last season, going 3-2 with a 2.67 ERA in 50 appearances (one start). But with his season as a Rule 5 pick now over and Gilmartin no longer required to remain at the major league level, the Mets had Gilmartin open this season at Triple-A Las Vegas.
Jim Henderson and direct competitor Logan Verrett earned the final two Opening Day bullpen spots.
Gilmartin said he was not consumed with opening the season in the minors.
