Sandy Alderson, cancer-free, is going home.
The former Mets general manager, who announced Saturday that he has been cancer-free for four months, is going back to where his baseball career started: Oakland.
The A’s announced Tuesday the 71-year-old would be welcomed back as senior adviser to baseball operations, reuniting him with his one-time mentee, Billy Beane, and the franchise he first joined in 1981.
“I am really excited to return to the A’s and the Bay Area,” Alderson said in a statement. “I look forward to being as helpful as I can to Billy, David [Forst, the GM], and the rest of the Baseball Operations staff.
