Rumor Central: Could the Mets return Jose Reyes to shortstop?

Could the New York Mets swap positions on the left side of the infield?

Mike Puma of the New York Post reports the Mets have discussed a plan to move Jose Reyes to shortstop and Asdrubal Cabrera to third base, but cautions the idea “has gained little traction” at this point.

Cabrera’s persistent knee problems have limited his range at shortstop, but Puma reports the 31-year-old is opposed to the shift and the Mets are reluctant to impose the switch against his will.

Reyes has played the bulk of his career at shortstop, but has been used primarily at third since rejoining the Mets last season.
