His thyroid cancer stabilized, Ron Darling realized it was time to come back to work over the last week. He couldn’t turn off the Mets games on the recent West Coast trip until the final out was recorded, a positive symbol of his recovery.
“I knew [then] it was probably time for me to come back,” the popular former Met and SNY broadcaster said. “I missed it, I didn’t want to miss anything. Part of our broadcast is try to segue from one broadcast to the other. I now know [fill-in] Todd Zeile’s nickname is ‘Ziplock.’”
Darling was back at Citi Field Tuesday night, back in the SNY broadcast booth alongside Gary Cohen and Keith Hernandez for the start of a series against the Giants.
