The Mets will spend the weekend celebrating the 1986 World Series championship team, and though Ron Darling is looking forward to catching up with former teammates on the season he said “defines” his career, he also is hoping the franchise has something else to commemorate at some point.
Darling said he believes the memory of that team can be a burden to the current players.
“In some cases, I think it’s a pain in the ass for teams now,” Darling said before the Mets beat the Dodgers, 6-5 on Friday night at Citi Field. “They hear a lot about the ’86 team and I’m sure they get tired of it.
