Robinson Cano exits game early in bizarre hit-by-pitch scenario

There was insult and injury for the Mets as Robinson Cano was hit by a pitch.

The second baseman was hit hard on the right hand as he sung at an Andrew Miller pitch in the top of the seventh inning against the Cardinals at Busch Stadium on Sunday. Cano left the game after being checked on my manager Mickey Callaway and the trainer. X-rays on Cano were negative.

The umpires ruled the play a swinging strike and not a hit-by-pitch, sending Callway into an heating argument with home plate umpire Bruce Dreckman that ultimately got him ejected from the game.
