The New York Mets survive a major scare Wednesday night when catcher Kevin Plawecki was hit by a Tayron Guerrero pitch in the eighth inning last night against the Miami Marlins.
Plawecki remained in the game, but when his time came for his next at-bat, he was replaced by catcher Tomás Nido as a pinch hitter. The Mets (10-1) rallied for four runs in the eighth inning and Nido came in to catch in the bottom of the eighth.
Anthony DiComo of MLB.com reported that X-rays taken of Plawecki’s left hand came back negative, much to the relief of the Mets.
