Report: Mets Will Consider Extending Daniel Murphy A Qualifying Offer

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) — There’s no other way to put it. Daniel Murphy is having one of the greatest postseasons in baseball history.

The man is on an absolute tear. Through eight playoff games he’s hitting .364 with six home runs, nine RBIs, a double and a stolen base.

The free-agent-to-be might be in line for a decent payday when he hits the market, and there have been rumors that general manager Sandy Alderson does not intend to re-sign the second baseman.

Newsday reports that the Mets remain hesitant about signing Murphy to a long-term deal, though they might extend him a qualifying offer after the season.
