NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) — Bobby Parnell has not been the same pitcher since opening day of 2014 — and now he’s back on the disabled list.
The veteran right-hander has struggled since returning from Tommy John surgery, which he had done after suffering an elbow injury on opening day of last season.
Parnell finally returned to the Mets on June 13, but has pitched to a 5.59 ERA in 23 appearances, spanning 19 1/3 innings. Parnell was tagged with a pair of losses against the Pittsburgh Pirates over the weekend, allowing a combined six runs — four earned — in just two-thirds of an inning.
