MIAMI -- The Replace-Mets were the difference for the New York Mets on Friday.
After Wilmer Flores drew a four-pitch walk against Tom Koehler, James Loney delivered a two-run homer on the first pitch from lefty reliever Mike Dunn. The tiebreaking shot in the seventh inning helped fuel the Mets to a 6-2 win against the Miami Marlins in Friday’s series opener.
Rene Rivera added a two-run homer in the ninth to open a four-run cushion.
An 11-year MLB veteran who debuted with the Mets on Tuesday, Loney produced only the 100th homer of his career.
