My aging heart … made older than its actual years by multiple seasons of needlessly close Mets games … appreciates this season full of games that are pretty much over early. When Rene Rivera smacked a two run homer off Jhoulys Chacin, it was a done deal. The Mets, it was predetermined, would not be one-hit two days in a row by the Braves. Not when it isn’t physically possible for Matt Wisler to pitch twice in a row.
Rene Rivera, for crissakes. And thank goodness for Rene Rivera, because with Travis d’Arnaud hurt and Kevin Plawecki batting at Mike Nickeas levels, Terry was getting cranky on Tuesday night:
“I don’t mean to put a lot of pressure on him, but he’s got to start getting some hits,” Collins said.
