Edwin Diaz’s fear quickly faded.
Less than 24 hours after the Mets closer was drilled in his left big toe by a Manny Machado line drive and limped out of Citi Field, Diaz was throwing and warming up on the field, ready to return when needed.
“I feel great,” Diaz said before Friday’s game against the Pirates. “Thank God. Thank God it was nothing worse.”
When the ball, which was traveling more than 100 mph, collided with Diaz’s foot, the closer believed a stint on the injured list might not be far off.
“I was kind of just thinking, hopefully nothing was broken,” Diaz said.
