Reds 3, Mets 1: Double digits didn’t happen

Only one team in baseball (Minnesota) has won at least 10 games this season, and the Mets did not join them on Sunday.

Thanks to a go-ahead, two-run double from designated hitter Santiago Espinal in the ninth inning, the Cincinnati Reds beat the Mets (78-65) 3-1 Sunday afternoon at Citi Field. The Reds took the game despite strong pitching performances from starter Luis Severino and reliever Reed Garrett through the first eight innings.

Severino gave up his first hit of the game on a soft liner from right fielder Jake Fraley to lead off the fifth inning, with Fraley ending up on second base after the ball slithered past a diving Mark Vientos into shallow left field.
