Jenrry Mejia, who was released by the Mets in November, signed a minor league deal with the Red Sox on Wednesday.
Mejia has been suspended three times for drug use, including a lifetime ban from MLB in 2016, but commissioner Rob Manfred ruled in July that he could be eligible to pitch in the majors next year despite serving multiple suspensions for the use of banned steroids.
The 29-year-old last pitched for the Mets in 2015. His best season in Queens came in 2014, when Mejia appeared in 63 games and had 28 saves. He signed a one-year deal with the Mets prior to last season and pitched for their Dominican Summer League team.
