Not even being held out of the lineup could cool off Wilmer Flores.
Despite having hit four homers in his previous four games, Flores found himself on the bench against Washington right-hander Lucas Giolito in favor of Jose Reyes and James Loney.
That changed in the bottom of the fifth, with Giolito — as well as Mets starter Bartolo Colon — out of the game.
With two runners on and the Mets trailing by a pair of runs, Terry Collins called on cult hero Flores, who delivered a three-run homer off of former Met Oliver Perez.
