Mets outfielder Rajai Davis, who was called up as the team’s outfield depth was depleted and hit a big pinch-hit home run last week, has cleared waivers and been outrighted to Triple-A Syracuse. Just a few days after that home run, though, Davis was designated for assignment to make room on the team’s active roster for Michael Conforto, who had been activated from the injured list.
Davis was a depth signing for the Mets over the offseason, and given his stats over the past few years in the big leagues, it wouldn’t be rational to expect significant production from him at the plate over a long span of time.
