Rafael Montero demoted to clear roster spot for Jacob deGrom

ATLANTA -- The New York Mets demoted right-hander Rafael Montero to Triple-A Las Vegas after Friday's 6-3 win against the Atlanta Braves to clear the roster spot for the return of Jacob deGrom from a temporary inactive list.

Montero allowed three runs on five hits and a walk and struck out one in 2 1/3 innings. He made two relief appearances.

DeGrom is due to rejoin the team Saturday and is scheduled to start Sunday's series finale. He has been away from the Mets since April 11, when his son Jaxon was born medical complications.
