Put a cork in it, Cubs: Mets won’t give up NL pennant without fight

CHICAGO — They have learned to believe here, where Waveland meets Clark, where Sheffield meets Addison. After 107 years of mostly waiting for other spikes to drop and for skies to fall, they have learned in this 108th season, post-championship, to sit back, to fold their arms, and to wait for the good stuff.

Here was the good stuff at Wrigley Field: Two walks issued by Jeurys Familia. A questionable decision by Jose Reyes fielding a bunt that probably would’ve rolled foul. Bases loaded, nobody out, Mets 2, Cubs 1, bottom nine, 41,456 folks on their feet now, waiting for the inevitable happy ending, just a matter of who the hero would be.
