Jayson Lee Payton is a pretty talented guy. The Zanesville, Ohio native excelled in soccer, baseball, and in the classroom. On the soccer pitch, he was an All-Ohio player and graduated as Zanesville High School’s all-time leader in goals scored. On the baseball diamond, he was an All-Ohio player and graduated as Zanesville High School’s all-time leader in batting average, on-base percentage, slugging percentage, and home runs. In the classroom, he was a gifted student and graduated fourth in his class. Because of his physical and intellectual gifts, he was offered a partial scholarship to Ohio State and a full scholarship to Georgia Tech, the latter of which he accepted.
