According to Jim Duquette, citing ‘league sources,’ Pete Alonso and his agent Scott Boras have offered the Mets a proposal for a three-year contract with opt outs after each year. The deal, reportedly, was offered only to the Mets. The financial details of the proposed contract are unknown at this point.
This report comes just a day after a report from Jon Heyman stated that Alonso was looking for ‘at least’ a six year deal.
While the Giants are still being floated as a potential landing spot for Alonso, a reunion with the Mets always made the most sense for both sides, and a deal like the one suggested by Duquette’s reporting seems like a good compromise.
