Pete Alonso just needed to change his mojo.
The Mets wunderkind began Thursday’s game against the Diamondbacks with a mustache and an 0-for-8 slump. After adding three more hitless at-bats, Alonso dipped into the clubhouse for a quick shave and appeared at the plate in the bottom of the sixth inning with a freshly shaven upper-lip.
Ditching the old soup strainer didn’t seem to reverse his fortunes in the short term, as he struck out for the third time on the day instead.
The Mets have some time to let Alonso figure out whatever’s ailing him, as they hit five homers through the first six innings against Arizona, including the first grand slam of Juan Lagares’ career.
