Pete Alonso has been selected as the sole Mets representative for the 2024 All Star Game in Arlington. The Mets first baseman has put up a .243/.325/.464 triple slash this year with 18 HR in 382 PA, good for a 125 wRC+ and 1.2 fWAR. Pete has not yet confirmed that he’ll appear in the home run derby, but it seems like a likely outcome.
Alonso has been a solid contributor for the Mets this season, but his selection is a bit puzzling. Among NL first baseman, he ranks 7th in fWAR behind Bryce Harper, Freddie Freeman, Christian Walker, Michael Busch, Jake Cronenworth, and Spencer Steer.
