Pete Alonso played better defense than the rest of the Mets on Friday night.
His defense just happened to initially come on Twitter.
The first baseman fought back against the idea that his lobbying to keep Thursday’s game going through the rain led to the Mets’ 5-4 loss, which was completed Friday. Edwin Diaz ended up blowing the Mets’ two-run lead in the top of the ninth Thursday before the game was suspended, then let up the go-ahead run in the 10th on Friday.
“We had Sugar [Edwin Diaz] coming in, he’s one of the best closers in the world,” Alonso said Friday after the Mets lost a second game to the Cardinals, 9-5.
