Pete Alonso wants to be known for more than his baseball exploits.
The Mets first baseman’s sense of civic pride and patriotism was on display Tuesday, as he donated the special cleats he designed and wore this past Sept. 11 to the 9/11 Memorial and Museum.
Alonso, who blasted 53 homers this season to set an MLB rookie record, was joined in lower Manhattan by team COO Jeff Wilpon for the event. Alonso also donated a bat that was used in the game — in which it was noted the Mets scored nine runs on 11 hits on 9/11.
