Outfielder Eric Young Jr. becomes free agent

NEW YORK -- Outfielder Eric Young Jr. became a free agent Friday when the New York Mets removed him from the 40-man roster. Anthony Recker and Wilfredo Tovar also became free agents.

Young, 30, went 0-for-8 during his second tour of duty with the Mets after being acquired from the Atlanta Braves in late August. He nonetheless scored nine runs because he primarily was used as a pinch runner.

Young was not included on the postseason roster for any round.
