The Baltimore Orioles acquired catcher James McCann and cash considerations from the New York Mets for a player to be named later, it was announced on Wednesday night.
The Mets entered the day with three catchers -- McCann, Tomas Nido and top prospect Francisco Alvarez -- on the 40-man roster, and they also signed free agent catcher Omar Narvaez less than a week earlier.
The 32-year-old McCann hit .195 in 61 games last season with New York. He had two separate stints on the injured list in 2022 because of a left oblique strain and a broken left hamate, respectively.
