The MLB draft is finally upon us. Over the next three days, teams will select the next wave of professional talent over 20 rounds after draft picks. The Mets will have picks 19 and 46 tonight.
The Mets, having finished 75-87 last season, had the seventh best lottery odds. Additionally, as a team that had spent more than second threshold of the Competitive Balance Tax (CBT), the Mets’ pick was slated to drop ten slots UNLESS they picked in the top-6, an outcome that was a near coinflip on lottery night.
Well, the team got a bit unlucky, slipping down two spots to nine in the original lottery drawing, then all the way down to 19 once their pick adjustment was applied.
