Nearly anyone who watched Jeurys Familia surrender backbreaker home runs in the playoffs both last year against the Royals in the World Series and then again in Wednesday’s loss to the Giants in the wild-card game would wonder whether he could succeed in the playoffs.
Mets pitching coach Dan Warthen isn’t one of them.
Asked if he had any doubt about Familia’s ability to succeed in October, Warthen said: “None whatsoever.”
Unfortunately for Familia and the Mets, Warthen’s sentiments were expressed as he walked out of Citi Field and packed his car on Thursday afternoon instead of heading to Chicago to play the Cubs in the NLDS starting on Friday.
