Noah Syndergaard scratched from next start with strep throat

Another Mets pitcher bites the dust.

Noah Syndergaard will miss his scheduled start Saturday against the Phillies due to strep throat. Sean Gilmartin will start in his place.

Syndergaard, who was knocked out in the fourth inning of Monday’s 7-3 loss to the Braves, was on schedule to start in the National League wild-card game on Oct. 5 should the Mets hold on to a playoff spot, but this recent setback puts his timetable up in the air.

Manager Terry Collins said he was hopeful of slotting Syndergaard back into the rotation on Monday or Tuesday.
