Noah Syndergaard was perfect through six innings Tuesday night against the Padres, and ended up going eight as the Mets shut out the Padres, pulling to within one game of the Nationals.
The Mets jumped out to an early lead in the first when Lucas Duda hit a monster tape measure shot into the seats in right-center to give the Mets a 2-0 lead. His 15th home run went an estimated 450 feet.
Will Venable led off the seventh with a clean single through the middle to end the perfect game bid.
