WASHINGTON — Welcome to Shutout City.
The Mets pitching staff has already put teams on notice. When Jacob deGrom pitched six shutout innings, and the rebuilt bullpen followed up with three more scoreless innings in the Opening Day 2-0 win Thursday at Nationals Park, it was a continuation of a theme.
Dating back to Sept. 28 of last season, the Mets staff has fired 33 straight scoreless innings, which according to the Elias Sports Bureau is the fifth-longest streak in franchise history. They have thrown three straight shutouts.
Next up is Thor to try to keep the door closed.
