Noah Syndergaard took a shutout into the eighth inning on Wednesday afternoon, though in a 7-0 drubbing of the Phillies, the Mets phenom might have upstaged himself with what he did at the plate.
Syndergaard went 3-for-3 including the first home run of his big league career, a towering blast that clanked off a stairway beyond the fence left of straightaway centerfield.
The homer was just a part of the Mets' biggest power display of the season. Before a crowd of 24,406 at Citi Field, the Mets hit four homers in a game for the first time since last August.
