No-hitter a new low for Mets’ porous lineup

It began in the first inning in a small section in center field, where everyone seemed to be wearing an orange T-shirt and yelling, “Let’s Go Giants.” By the final innings Tuesday night, it was as if the entire Citi Field had turned into AT&T Park in San Francisco.

When Mets third baseman Eric Campbell hit a hard ground ball that Giants shortstop Brandon Crawford back-handed and fired across the diamond to record the third out of the eighth inning, the whole ballpark seemed to be rooting for Giants rookie right-hander Chris Heston. If the plan before the game was for the Mets to begin an eight-game home stand on a positive note, the objective had changed with just about everybody in the crowd of 23,155 hoping to see a no-hitter, everyone except the Mets that is.
