Nine run fourth inning propels Mets to sweep of Nationals

With no help in the Wild Card race on the out-of-town scoreboard, the Mets took care of business on Wednesday evening, completing a sweep of the Washington Nationals behind a nine run explosion in the fourth inning to maintain their position in the Wild Card race.

Jose Quintana pitched around a couple of baserunners in the top of the first, but otherwise continued his fine recent form. D.J. Herz matched Quintana’s zeroes over the first three innings—striking out the side in the bottom of the third—before the fateful fourth.

Brandon Nimmo led off the frame with a walk, and Pete Alonso followed with a single.
