With Asdrubal Cabrera, Wilmer Flores and Ruben Tejada, the Mets have three shortstops on their roster.
According to veteran MLB.com reporter Phil Rogers, if they're interested, the Mets could have a trade partner for Flores in the Padres and White Sox, both of whom are still looking to acquire a shortstop this winter (Jan. 12, 2016).
He's right, in that's worth a phone call. However, I can't see either team giving up enough in a trade to make the deal worth doing for the Mets. In the end, I think the Mets prefer to have too many guys than not enough, since their goal this winter appeared to be creating versatility and depth on the roster.
