The New York Mets received a devastating blow on the same night they were eliminated from playoff contention.
Infielder/outfielder Jeff McNeil was hit in the right wrist in the bottom of the sixth inning by Miami Marlins left-hander Josh Smith. McNeil fractured the distal ulnar in that wrist, according to Anthony DiComo of mlb.com. There’s no question McNeil will sit for the rest of the year, being that there are only four games left.
McNeil was in the running for the batting title. However, there’s no question he would’ve needed a stellar conclusion to his season to achieve it.
