As a formality on Tuesday, the New York Mets signed relief pitcher Jenrry Mejia to a one-year deal worth $1,976,000. However, Mejia will never see a penny of the money because he has been banned from baseball for life.
Despite the lifetime ban, the right-hander is still on the Mets roster and was still technically up for arbitration, could this story get any more complicated?
Mejia was first suspended in April of 2015 for testing positive for Stanozolol, a substance which is banned by major league baseball.
